The Truth About "Auto-Adjusting" Glasses Like Mag Vision: Do They Really Work?

Hi everyone — Neil here from UseMyFrame.com. I wanted to take a moment to talk about something I’ve been seeing pop up a lot lately — especially on Facebook. Today I got an ad in my feed for a pair of glasses called Mag Vision, which claim to “automatically adjust to your eyes” and replace your entire prescription with just one pair.

As someone who works in optics every single day, I knew I had to say something — not to knock anyone’s product, but because I care about helping people actually see better.

So, what are these “auto-adjusting” glasses?

Mag Vision and similar brands are advertising glasses that supposedly work for both distance and reading, adjust to any prescription, don’t require an eye exam or prescription, and use something like “liquid lenses” or “smart glass” technology.

I’ve worked with real optical technology — including progressive lenses, prescription readers, and even digital free-form lenses — and I can tell you this: there’s no such thing as a truly universal prescription lens. Your prescription is unique to you, and vision correction just isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Here’s the reality behind those ads: What they usually are is low-quality plastic frames with adjustable lenses — sometimes you dial them left or right to change power. They’re basically magnifiers or novelty readers, not true prescription glasses. What they don’t do is correct astigmatism, match your real prescription, or provide true visual clarity across the whole lens. And often, these glasses can cause eye strain or headaches — especially if you have a more complex prescription.

Why I care: At UseMyFrame.com, we custom-make lenses based on your exact prescription, pupillary distance (PD), and frame shape. That means your glasses are made for you, not just “close enough.”

I’m not writing this to be negative — I get the appeal! I love when technology pushes boundaries. But I also want people to make informed decisions. If something sounds too good to be true... you know how that goes.

Want real, personalized vision correction? Whether you need prescription scuba lenses, readers, sunglasses, or just a better pair of everyday glasses, we’d be happy to help. We’ll even walk you through the whole process — no gimmicks, just quality you can see.

Thanks for reading — and as always, if you’ve got questions, you can reach me directly at neil@usemyframe.com or comment below. I really do read every message. :)

  • I also got took. These were corrective lenses which you couldn’t see through. They were like a child’s cheap toy with cheap plastic that you picked up from the dollar store, but just bigger adult size. They also gave me an address in China to send them back to. I emailed them back saying no, they did not come from China. They came from Virginia and that’s where I will be mailing them to. I told them that i’m not keeping this product, nor am I sending it to China, I told them they get their product back, and I get my money back! they refused me, offered 25% of my money back, I refused, then they offered 30% back, I refused again, and told them not to bother communicating with me again, they would be heating from mu financial institution, so then I disputed it with my bank and the person I saw at the bank treated me like a child, she was extremely disrespectful. I was old enough to be her mother yet she talked down at me as if I was a child. Nope, not today little girl, so that was enough for me, I went home and called the bank and asked for her supervisor. From there on, it was a man that handled my case. He was wonderful, professional, and showed class, and respect. He called me last week and asked for the emails with the address to China. He also got my side of the story. The girl who helped me before him, told him that I said it was a child’s sized toy. That’s not what I said, she wasn’t a very good listener although I was very thorough, nor did she care about my plight so it’s a good thing I went over her head. Never take “no” for an answer when it comes to your money, no matter how small the amount. They work for you. You don’t work for them. I expressed to him that I had been a client of that bank for 38 years and they had better have my back on this or I was contacting the Better Business Bureau and have them fight to get my money back. If he had refused me, I was silently going to pull out and close my account at that bank and start a new account at another one if they weren’t going to back me on this and fight to get my money back. What good is a bank if they aren’t supporting their customers in a scam like this. That’s a bank that doesn’t serve it’s people, and are no good for anybody, but the rich. But they did, so it worked out for the better and I’m glad they did because it sends a message to these scammers that no matter how small the amount, they’re not going to win. So, I didn’t have to change banks after all. But I sure was ready to. I feel that if you’re a long standing, loyal customer of your bank, and for that many years, it doesn’t matter if it’s $5, they should always have your back. Some people don’t have a lot of money and every penny counts, it should also count to your bank that it counts to their customers. I also told him that, yes, it was stupid of me to fall for that, but I did, and I am not eating that $40 because some crook decided to take advantage of me. The item was nothing like they had claimed. They take innocent people‘s money, we get the scam product, and when you get it, you then realize what you have done, you feel violated and angry at what it is you got for your money, then they tell you in order to get your full refund back, you need to ship it back to China, which costs more than what you paid them for the scam item. So that very same hour the supervisor of the bank credited my account back the money I was out. I was very thankful. just always be careful of these companies that try to sell you a good commercial with hopes and dreams that are too far-fetched. The amount is always low so people will just let it go or their bank won’t take it farther and that’s how they make their millions. You’re not only taken advantage of by the crook, but also by your bank for not fighting for you if they deny your dispute request so you lose all around. Always stand up to your bank if they decline your request after seeing all of the evidence. That is their job. To protect you and your money from crooks and thieves like this. That is a bank we do not want to give our business to. After all, if it wasn’t for the people, they wouldn’t be in business at all. Good luck to you all, and don’t forget to fight for your money! After all, it’s yours, no matter how big, or small!

  • I too was scammed by this company for their auto focus, auto dimming glasses. They did neither, all the claims made were bogus, the price of what you are quoted before purchase is not the price they charge your card! I tried to terminated the sell when the actual receipt was emailed. It was over $10 more and list a different company than the one that the purchase was initially made from. Credit card company said they were looking into it and declined my request. I reapplied for credit with them then was told I had to return it to them in China, the return cost was more than my purchase price. These were sent to me from NY, not China. and took nearly one to receive. They were very cheap reading glasses, less quality than what you can get from a dollar store! Do not whatever you do order anything from these scam online ads on YouTube, Facebook or other media platforms. Amazon or Temu are safer bets, read their review before purchasing.

  • People who steal and rob are the same people who sell BS, like self adjusting eye glasses. They all should be hunted down and forced to wear their BS glasses.
