An eye refraction is a test used to measure your eye’s ability to focus light and determine if you need corrective lenses (such as glasses or contact lenses). This process helps identify any refractive errors, such as:

Myopia (nearsightedness) – Difficulty seeing objects at a distance.

Hyperopia (farsightedness) – Difficulty seeing objects up close.

Astigmatism – Blurred vision caused by an irregularly shaped cornea.

Presbyopia – Age-related difficulty focusing on close objects.

Unlike a comprehensive eye exam, which includes testing for eye diseases like glaucoma or macular degeneration, our refraction service focuses specifically on determining the precise prescription for your lenses. However, we’re leveraging the latest in tele-health technology to make the process seamless and highly accurate. After your refraction, your results will be reviewed by a licensed optometrist remotely, ensuring a quick and convenient experience without compromising on quality.

Our address is:

104 E 3rd Street

Rock Falls, IL 61071

This is a great option for those who need updated prescriptions but may not require a full medical eye exam at this time. If you need a comprehensive eye health evaluation, we’d be happy to recommend a trusted local provider as well.

NOTE: After your appointment is scheduled, we will email you the intake form to complete at home (save time), or you can complete in store.

How Our Eye Exam Process Works

Our refraction-only eye exam is a fast, simple, and highly accurate way to update your glasses prescription. Using state-of-the-art technology, the process is completely in-office, with results reviewed by an Illinois licensed eye doctor.

Step 1: Complete a Quick Intake Form

You’ll fill out a brief medical history, either at home before your appointment or in our office when you arrive.

Step 2: Measure Your Current Glasses (Auto Lensmeter)

We place your current glasses in an auto lensmeter, which reads your existing prescription and uploads the results directly to the system.

Step 3: Measure Your Eye’s Focusing Power (Auto Refractor)

Next, you’ll look into an auto refractor, where a gentle light measures how your eye focuses. It calculates your baseline prescription by analyzing how light reflects off the back of your eye (the retina).

Step 4: Fine-Tune Your Prescription (Digital Phoropter)

Finally, a certified technician remotely operates our digital phoropter, switching lenses as you answer the classic "Which is better: 1 or 2?" This fine-tunes your prescription in real time for the sharpest, most comfortable vision.

Super Accurate Exam

When we decided to invest in this refraction system, I was cautiously optimistic—but wow, it has exceeded my expectations! The accuracy of the prescriptions it provides is nothing short of amazing, and the thoroughness rivals a traditional exam. I even ran my own prescription through it, and let’s just say my glasses game has never been sharper. We wanted technology that delivers on precision and efficiency, and this system absolutely nailed it. If you’re due for an exam, you’ve got to try it—I think you’ll be as impressed as I was (and I’m pretty picky about these things).

Something new

Never had an eye test remotely. Didn't know what to expect but was a typical eye test just done remotely.
