We Handle the Hard Stuff
Most optical shops — online and in person — stick to straightforward jobs. Single vision, standard progressives, common prescriptions. That works for most people. But if your needs fall outside that range, you've probably already been told "we can't do that."
We can.
All of our work is done in-house at our Rock Falls, Illinois lab, under the direct supervision of Neil Uher II, ABO-AC. That means we have the flexibility to take on specialty work that larger labs and chain stores won't touch.
If you have a special request, contact us before ordering. We'll let you know exactly what's possible and what it will cost.
Difficult Prescriptions
High sphere, high cylinder, prism correction, anisometropia, aphakia — we regularly make lenses that other labs decline. The higher the prescription, the more experience matters. We've been doing this a long time, and we're equipped to handle prescriptions that require extra care in material selection, lens design, and fitting.
Not sure if your prescription qualifies as difficult? Send it to us. We'll give you a straight answer.
Custom Bifocal and Trifocal Segment Sizes
Standard bifocals come with a set segment size. For most people, that's fine. But if you've worn a larger intermediate segment and can't find someone to match it, we can help.
We can make trifocals with an 8×35mm intermediate segment (instead of the more common 7×24mm), and we offer executive bifocals with a full-width reading area for those who need maximum coverage. These aren't options you'll find on a dropdown menu at most labs. Contact us to discuss what you need.
Specialty Tints — Including FL-41 for Light Sensitivity
FL-41 is a rose-tinted lens coating developed to reduce discomfort for people with photophobia, migraines triggered by fluorescent lighting, or other light sensitivities. It's not something most optical labs stock. We can make it.
We also offer a wide range of other specialty tints — custom colors, gradients, and non-standard options. If you have a specific tint in mind and you're not finding it elsewhere, reach out. We'll tell you what we can do.
Rimless and Drill-Mount Work
Rimless glasses require precise drilling through the lens itself. Done wrong, the lens cracks — or worse, it cracks later. We have the equipment and the experience to do this correctly. We also handle specialty rimless styles, faceted edges, and custom drilling patterns that most labs won't attempt.
If you have rimless frames that need new lenses, contact us before sending them in. Some rimless designs have specific requirements we'll want to discuss first.
