5 Everyday Habits That Damage Your Glasses (and How to Break Them)

Glasses aren’t just something you throw on in the morning—they’re an investment in how you see the world. But there are a few little everyday habits that can beat them up faster than you might think. Here are some of the most common ones we see, along with easy ways to break them.
1. Leaving glasses lens-down: We know it’s easy to set them down face-first on a counter, but even the best scratch-resistant coatings can’t handle that for long. A simple fix? Always rest them with the lenses facing up, or better yet, pop them in a case.

2. Wiping lenses with your shirt: Everyone does it in a pinch, but shirts, napkins, and tissues trap dust that acts like sandpaper on your lenses. Keep a microfiber cloth handy instead—we promise it makes a difference (and we’ll gladly give you extras if you need them).
3. Tossing them in a bag without a case: Keys, pens, and whatever else lives at the bottom of a bag are tough on glasses. A sturdy case will save you from scratches and bent frames. Soft pouches are fine for quick storage, but a hard case is your best friend here.

4. Leaving glasses in a hot car: A dashboard in July is one of the worst places for glasses—heat can warp frames and damage coatings. Think of your glasses like your phone: if it’s too hot for your electronics, it’s too hot for your lenses.

5. Wearing glasses on top of your head: We get it, it’s convenient. But this stretches out the temples, loosens the fit, and smudges the lenses with hair oils. If you need them off your face, a case or a glasses chain is a much better option.
The takeaway: A few small changes in your daily routine will keep your glasses looking great and lasting longer. And if they ever do get bent, scratched, or just need a little TLC, we’re here to help. That’s what we do every day—make sure you see your world as clearly and comfortably as possible.
